Hello friend - Wasp Beetle
As I find myself in constant awe of insects (and the natural world in general) I'm going to start documenting my appreciation of these tiny friends, whether that's a humble woodlouse or some fancy fungi. To quote one of my favourite University tutors, 'everything is interesting'. He was right.
My first entry is a little Wasp Beetle - Clytus arietis, and in this case a brand new species to me, spotted on one of the Heuchera leaves in the garden. Aren't they pretty? They're known for mimicking wasps not only in how they dress, but in their movement too. This one was motionless (perhaps a little camera shy) so I didn't get to see it in action, but it was still a treat to spot.
