Summer blooms
On my way to collect ragwort for the Cinnabars each day, I walk along a main road and up to a local park, which, after extensive changes to the surrounding infrastructure, has been allowed to flower freely this year. I think (?) it's been seeded, but as it was churned up earth covered in litter last year, it's hard to tell if/when that happened. The park was recently the victim of a mammoth roundabout creation, cutting right through the middle of valuable green space and leaving a sparce grassy island, with the remaining sorry-looking mature trees that once covered it.
On the other side, where I collect the ragwort from, was once a much better habitat, so it's another example of wildlife being forced to adapt to homelessness as humans lay asphalt paths, rubber mulch for playgrounds and dried-out turf.
I despair, truly.
But this year, the flowers are fighting back on this particular patch, lining the paths and trying to claw back. They're putting on quite the show while they do, and it was nice to spot a kestrel hunting over the area last week.
