Easter Eggs at Bempton Cliffs

After a stressful few weeks and yet another house purchase falling through, I was craving the coast to lift my spirits. Over the Easter Bank Holiday I packed up the car and headed over to Filey for the day. The beach there is perfect if you're wanting to unwind, it's vast and for a beach so large it's much quieter than other North Yorkshire coastal spots. It's also dog friendly, with no restrictions in place from October to March. We spent some time on the beach itself, before clambering up to the cliff tops to follow part of the coastal path. The views are quite something from up there.

Before we headed home, I wanted to stop off at RSPB Bempton Cliffs to see if the Puffins had arrived (I've never seen a Puffin before, so I made a promise to myself that I'd try and see some this year). Sadly, we were a little early and the clowns of the sea hadn't arrived yet, but there were plenty of Gannets, Kittiwakes and the odd Guillemot already busy incubating their eggs. How they manage to build nests on the treacherous cliff face is quite astonishing.

I could've stayed all day, watching the birds glide back and forth as the sea swirled below them. I was quickly reminded by the hardcore birders around me that I should really invest in some better binoculars, as well as a telescopic camera lens at some point. Some of the equipment being paraded around was next level...

My photos don't quite do the atmosphere of the bird colonies justice, but maybe next time I'll be able to get some close ups!
